The Dufferin Groove

The Dufferin Groove with Ashleigh Rose and Laurent Humeau is a Toronto-based musical duo rooted in traditional jazz, folk, and New Orleans–style swing. Regular collaborators on the city’s roots music scene, they are often heard at venues such as Grossman’s Tavern, where they bring a raw, acoustic energy to intimate and lively settings alike.

Ashleigh Rose provides the rhythmic foundation of the duo, anchoring the music on sousaphone or tuba with precision and warmth. Her playing reflects a deep commitment to community music-making, whether supporting a street celebration or shaping the low end of a small ensemble.

Laurent Humeau is a multi-instrumentalist whose expressive trumpet and clarinet playing evokes the spirit of early jazz traditions. A mainstay of Toronto’s New Orleans–style jazz community, he also brings melodic sensitivity on guitar.

Together, Ashleigh and Laurent animate historic musical forms with freshness and joy, connecting easily with audiences at markets, festivals, and informal jam sessions.
