Seven paid positions are available for summer 2026, funded through Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training and Canada Summer Jobs. All roles are based outdoors at Dufferin Grove Park, with Clay & Paper Theatre's Artistic Directors and senior artists. CSJ contracts runs June 1 – August 16, 2026 and the Miziwe Biik contract runs June 1 - August 30.

Maker & Puppeteer

Miziwe Biik · 1 position · $20/hr · Ages 18–30

Who this position is for: We are actively seeking a First Nations, Métis or Inuit artist residing in the GTA. You must be registered with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Employment and Training, or eligible to register — registration does not need to happen before you apply to us.   • We are seeking a young Indigenous artist to join C&P's Apprenticeship in Public Space Performance this summer. You may be an emerging artist. You may be dedicated to activism and social justice. You may be inspired by community-engaged arts. You may be someone who wants to use art to explore the urgent issues of our day. This summer, you'll get a chance to dive into these areas as a performer-puppeteer in Dufferin Grove Park, working with C&P's Artistic Directors.

    We will offer performances, parades, and pageantry using large puppets, masks, song, and movement. We'll work on various projects over our 11 weeks together, including local public space animations, puppetry training, and building and workshopping Ghost Walk, Earth Dance — a new original C&P production exploring biodiversity and species extinction. There will also be opportunities to develop artist facilitation skills during community workshop sessions.

    Scheduling for this position is variable and includes some evenings and weekends.

  • - Attend workshops and training in voice, movement, puppetry, and mask

    - Assist with construction and maintenance of props, costumes, set pieces, masks, and puppets

    - Attend rehearsals and develop techniques specific to outdoor performance in a public space

    - Assist in the setup of community outdoor workshops and facilitate puppet and/or mask building with participants under the lead and supervision of C&P staff artists

    - Become familiar with accessibility options for seniors and low-vision audience members; learn how to prepare for and assist with touch tours

    - Assist with outreach and promotion of events, including putting up posters, attending local events in Davenport, handing out leaflets, participating in photo and video shoots, and community Q&As

    - Set up and strike from C&P events; welcome attendees and community members

    - Become familiar with C&P's anti-harassment/discrimination policies, reporting procedures, and health and safety practices

  • - You are First Nations, Métis or Inuit and reside in the Greater Toronto Area and your are registered with Miziwe Biik Aboriginal Training and Employment.*

    - You are between 18 and 30 years old

    - You may have training or experience in one or more of the following: theatre, dance, puppetry, music, visual art, community organizing, activism, construction, or design

Stage Manager

Canada Summer · Jobs 1 position · $19/hr · Ages 18–30

  • The Stage Manager supports C&P's Artistic Directors and senior artists with the smooth management and execution of community workshops, as well as the preparation and presentation of C&P performances in public spaces and parks in Davenport, with an emphasis on giant puppetry.

    You'll train and work onsite at Dufferin Grove Park and our city-leased park building, the Fieldhouse, immersing yourself in C&P's community-engaged, multi-disciplinary practice with all-age audiences and participants. You'll also contribute to the continued development of Ghost Walk, Earth Dance — a new original Canadian production for giant puppetry exploring biodiversity in an accelerating species extinction crisis.

  • - Prepare production schedules using digital tools and distribute them to all staff via shared Google Drive; write meeting and rehearsal reports; prepare a prompt script

    - Serve as the key communications hub between all company and production staff

    - Record the director's stage blocking instructions and notes

    - Maintain show reports, including lists of puppet or prop repairs, and document audience feedback

    - Organise the Fieldhouse workshop; assist with monitoring health and safety practices for workshop tools and processes

    - Coordinate setup and strike of tools, props, set pieces, costumes, puppets, signage, box office, and front-of-house materials with the puppeteers/facilitators

    - Contribute to daily production meetings with oral and written updates

    - Model an inclusive, respectful, and safe work environment for colleagues and the community

    - Become familiar with C&P's anti-harassment/discrimination policies, reporting procedures, and health and safety practices

  • - You are between 18 and 30 years old, and as per Canada Summer Jobs you are either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred (international students are ineligible) and be legally entitled to work in Canada.

    - You may have training or experience in one or more of the following: stage management, production coordination, community organizing, theatre, or other performing arts

    - Strong organisational skills and clear written and oral communication

    - Comfortable working outdoors in a non-traditional, public-view setting
