Rod Puppetry Workshop - Spring 2026
-
Not at all! This workshop is designed to be accessible to complete beginners, while offering enough depth to engage participants with some art or craft background. Whatever your skill level, you'll be in good company.
-
This workshop is designed for adult learners (18+). We love that young people are drawn to puppetry — but the materials, pace, and studio environment are geared toward adults. If you're interested in youth programming, get in touch and we'll let you know what else we have coming up.
-
Everything you need is included in the $350 fee — clay, papier-mâché supplies, wood, paint, and reclaimed fabric. We also have sculpting tools and sewing machines available in the studio, though not every puppet requires much sewing. If you have a favourite fabric you'd like to incorporate, feel free to bring it along and we'll see how it works with your design. Otherwise, just bring yourself and your idea.
-
Wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty — clay and papier-mâché work can get wonderfully messy. We have smocks available in the studio, but it's still a good idea to dress down just in case. You're welcome to bring a sketchbook or any reference images that are inspiring your puppet idea.
-
If you need to cancel your registration, please let us know at least 24 hours in advance. This gives us the chance to offer your spot to someone on the waiting list and make sure they have fair notice to prepare.
-
Yes — the puppet is yours to keep! Take it to a parade, a protest, a performance, or your living room. We'd LOVE to hear where it ends up. In fact, share photos if you can, of where you’ve animated your rod puppet.
