Richard Underhill & the Kensington Horns

Richard Underhill is a Juno Award–winning saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, and one of Canada’s most distinctive jazz voices. A long-time collaborator with Clay & Paper Theatre, Richard has played a central role in the Night of Dread Festival for many years, leading the powerful brass ensemble **The Kensington Horns** and helping shape the Festival’s signature sound and celebratory energy.

Renowned for his melodic alto saxophone playing and adventurous compositions, Richard won the 2003 Juno Award for *Tales from the Blue Lounge* and has received multiple Juno nominations for subsequent recordings. He is a founding member of the legendary Shuffle Demons, with whom he has toured extensively around the world, from major jazz festivals to streets and public spaces across six continents.

Richard’s work bridges virtuosity and accessibility, bringing bold, joyful music into shared public experience—on stages, in parks, and in the heart of the community.
