Lantern-Making Workshops
Create Your Light for the Winter Solstice Walk
Join us in lighting the way for the Winter Solstice Walk! We’re offering 3 FREE lantern-making workshops in the Dufferin Grove Rink House this December. These hands-on community sessions welcome people of all ages to create beautiful handmade lanterns to carry on the Walk. No experience is necessary — just bring your curiosity, your imagination, and a willingness to get a little gluey.
What You’ll Make
Participants create simple yet striking lanterns using lightweight materials such as flat reed, wet-strength tissue paper, coloured tissue, tin, cardboard and watered down white glue.
Each lantern frame is pre-made so that you can jump right into covering and decorating it. You’ll also have plenty of time to complete your lantern in the 2-hour workshop session.
We’ll supply you with a tea-light or LED light, whichever you prefer. Both lighting methods are safe for this lantern type. The lantern comes with a built in handle so you’ll be ready to carry it on the Walk.
